BLUE WATER LILY
Planet - Moon
Element - Water
Blue Water Lily (Nymphaea caerulea) is often called Blue Lotus, though she is technically a water lily which reflects her true nature. She is the original plant sacrament of Ancient Egypt, known by many as the Flower of Enlightenment, where her roots once grew wild along the banks of the Nile.
She amplifies our awareness, rising from sediment through muddy water to meet the sun, opening at dawn & closing at dusk, her full bloom lasting only days before she again becomes a seed pod & begins again. As medicine, she is a nervine, calming & soothing to the nervous system so vitality can move freely throughout the body. When the nervous system moves out of survival & into regulation, the deeper layers of our memory, feelings & intuition become available. She builds a foundation of safety within the body first, & from that safety, everything becomes possible.
Working with Blue Lily with our subconscious in the dream space deepens our understanding of any shadow patterns & the parts of ourselves we have kept hidden. Working with Blue Lily offers us the opportunity to connect with the magic & sacredness & thins the veil between the seen & unseen. My own work with her created a strong embodiment & grounding, a feeling of being deeply connected to my ancestral roots.
I became fascinated with Ancient Egypt at a very young age, & in my mid-twenties travelled there alone. Whilst sailing along the Nile, we stopped on a bank where blue water lilies were blooming everywhere. When I disembarked & my foot touched the earth, I had a full flashback memory of being there before. I walked through an open, barren space with rocks dotted everywhere, & perplexed, I climbed the mountain to get a higher perspective. The most incredible sensation of energy moved through me which at the time I could not describe. When I returned to the boat, the guide asked if I knew what the place was & explained it was a graveyard for children & babies, the little rocks were their tombstones & I could feel their spirits beneath the earth. This activation with the death/birth portal by the banks of the Nile has shifted my
Blue Water Lily is a teacher of wholeness, weaving together the emotional, physical, spiritual, & energetic rather than asking us to leave any one behind. For those called to work with her, she becomes less a single experience & more an ongoing relationship, one built on trust that continues revealing long after the dieta ends. We are not meant to suppress our deepest feelings, she shows us that the full spectrum of feelings are not obstacles to escape but the passage toward our divinity.
Like the Blue Water Lily rising from the depths of the mud toward the light, we first must honour the descent before we can fully bloom.
